“Child Abuse and Neglect” by Allison Brockman

Abstract

The topic of this presentation is child abuse and neglect. There were two sides of an argument about using predictive analytics to put a flag on families that are at higher risk of child abuse. One argument is that predictive analytics would really save children from the chance of getting abused or neglected. The other side of the argument is that sometimes predictive analytics puts those flags on families that are not at risk of child abuse and takes social workers from focusing on children that are already being abused. During this presentation, I explain the common ground between the two arguments. I wrote this paper because it was a topic that really interests me. I believe this is a topic that is very important that a lot of people do not think about, but it happens every day for some kids. I just wanted to shine some light on it because of that.
