“I Am Woman” from “The Harvest Queen” by Mollie Ficek
The piece of art that I am entering is multi media: watercolor, collage, pen and ink. It is designed to compliment the literary piece entitled: “The Harvest Queen” by Mollie Ficek. I painted the background first, then drew images, then created the collage and refined the drawings.
The curved shape in the upper left corner represents the crown that Gloria is given. The yellow streak under it represents her hair. The words throughout the picture represent the emotions that she evoked in the people of Hadley, as well as gifts she gave them.. I feel that in the story Gloria has physical beauty that the people can see. She also has an inner beauty that the people appreciate, but that she is unaware of. This is symbolic of all women. Do they ever fully realize the power that they have to use?
