Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My presentation is about how different forms of media portraying perfect, thin women (the \u201cthin ideal\u201d) in today\u2019s society affect the self-esteems of women. Primarily, my research has come to show that media with unrealistically beautiful women has negative impacts on the self-esteems of women due to self-comparison, and this self-comparison is typically subliminal. However, further research has proven that media portraying realistic, \u201cimperfect\u201d women does not create these kinds of negative emotions in women and can even surface some positive feelings. The significance of this presentation is to show research-based evidence that the \u201cthin ideal\u201d really can be damaging to a woman\u2019s self-esteem. I think it is essential for women to know one of the primary causes for their feelings of low satisfaction towards their own bodies. After all, it\u2019s easier to find a solution to a problem after recognizing what the problem really is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
