{"id":827,"date":"2018-05-08T19:31:02","date_gmt":"2018-05-08T19:31:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/casit.bgsu.edu\/winterwheat\/?page_id=827"},"modified":"2023-10-25T22:23:49","modified_gmt":"2023-10-25T22:23:49","slug":"about-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/casit.bgsu.edu\/winterwheat\/about-2\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>About the Festival:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Winter Wheat, created in 2001, is a festival celebrating writers and readers, produced by\u00a0<em>Mid-American Review\u00a0<\/em>and hosted on the campus of Bowling Green State University.<\/p>\n<p>In workshops, students, faculty, and guests from the Bowling Green community and beyond come to learn, discuss, read, and most importantly write. Through \u201ckeynote\u201d readings, special guest authors read their work, sign books, and talk with Winter Wheat participants. Winter Wheat creates the ideal environment for graduate and undergraduate students, faculty and staff, community writers, and those from other states to mingle and create new work, effectively planting the seeds of new writings for future harvest.<\/p>\n<p>Winter Wheat kicks off each year with a Thursday night reading. Friday and Saturday are filled with craft-oriented sessions. Friday\u2019s sessions begin in the afternoon and are followed by a reading by one of our featured readers. Saturday includes a book fair, where literary journals show and sell their latest issues, and presenters\u2019 books are available. The sessions (four time slots) run all day. There is a reading in the afternoon by one of the featured readers, followed by the annual Open Mic, with a light dinner.<\/p>\n<p>There is no fee to attend Winter Wheat. The festival is sponsored by <em>MAR<\/em>, the BGSU Ethnic and Cultural Arts Program, the Creative Writing Program at BGSU,\u00a0<em>Prairie Margins<\/em>, the Graduate Writers Club, the Creative Writing Alumni Fund, and donations from attendees. <strong>The festival would not be possible without donors!<\/strong> Donations for Winter Wheat and <em>MAR<\/em> can be made\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/connect.bgsu.edu\/make-a-gift-donation-form?fid=NyNvjazfeIA%3d&amp;fdesc=qcwOXIN5mIBFxuVL8lIaMV2v%2fQy7wB9G\">online<\/a>, or through checks made out to BGSU Foundation, with\u00a0<em>Mid-American Review<\/em> in the Memo line.
