Laura Maylene Walter will read her work as part of the Prout Reading Series hosted by Bowling Green State University in Prout Chapel, January 26th, at 7:30pm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Laura Maylene\u00a0Walter is an author,\u00a0editor, and BGSU alum currently based in Cleveland\u00a0Ohio.\u00a0She has been published in\u00a0Poets & Writers<\/em>,\u00a0The Sun<\/em>,\u00a0Literary Hub, Kenyon Review<\/em>,\u00a0Slate<\/em>,\u00a0Ninth Letter<\/em>,\u00a0The Masters Review<\/em>, and many more journals and publications.\u00a0Her awards and recognitions are as numerous as her publication locales: a finalist in the Ohioana Book Awards, an Individual Excellence Award from the Ohio Arts Council,\u00a0achieving fiction book of the month from UK Booksellers Association, etc.\u00a0To add to her\u00a0numerous\u00a0accomplishments, the sheer volume of her pieces makes it impossible to include them all here.\u00a0Most notably, she is the author of the\u00a0short\u00a0story collection\u00a0\u201cLiving Arrangements\u201d\u00a0and\u00a0has just debuted her first novel,\u00a0Body of Stars<\/em> published by Dutton.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Walter\u2019s\u00a0early work explored dark themes, largely based on the death of her mother when she was\u00a0twenty, \u201cEven so, I often find myself returning to that period of my life, particularly when I write nonfiction. I think it\u2019s because, as difficult as that time was for me, the darkness made it rich\u201d (Kenyonreview). Her most recent piece\u00a0Body of Stars<\/em>\u00a0is a speculative feminist piece that explores the future as it relates to bodies, \u201can exploration of fate and female agency in a world similar to our own\u201d (Ohiocenterforthebook).\u00a0The premise\u00a0of this up-and-coming piece focuses on the placement of women\u2019s moles being able to predict future events.
