{"id":891,"date":"2022-10-26T15:41:20","date_gmt":"2022-10-26T19:41:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/casit.bgsu.edu\/marblog\/?p=891"},"modified":"2022-10-26T15:41:20","modified_gmt":"2022-10-26T19:41:20","slug":"featured-writers-remi-recchia-and-roseanna-alice-recchia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/casit.bgsu.edu\/marblog\/featured-writers-remi-recchia-and-roseanna-alice-recchia\/","title":{"rendered":"Featured Writers: Remi Recchia and Roseanna Alice Recchia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Distinguished alumni&nbsp;Remi Recchia&nbsp;and&nbsp;Roseanna Alice Recchia&nbsp;will read their poetry as features of Bowling Green State University\u2019s Winter Wheat Festival of 2022 from November 10<sup>th<\/sup>\u2013 12<sup>th<\/sup>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Remi Recchia<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remi Recchia writes with an unflinchingly graceful and poignant voice that resounds in every line of his poetry.&nbsp;Poems like, \u201cWaking Up from Top Surgery in a Sparse Airbnb Living Room\u201ddescribe a singular experience with breathtaking emotion: \u201cThe hardwood floor\/reflects my new watch, large\/face swallowing wrist:\/a reminder that I am a man.\u201d&nbsp;In other poems, Recchia conveys beautiful intimacy in carefully crafted words, like his poem \u201cFire Eater, Premolar, Bones,\u201d: \u201cSometimes when we kiss, I feel your teeth\/clink against mine: the quietest champagne\/toast.&nbsp;We are not embarrassed anymore when this happens.\u201d&nbsp;His book,&nbsp;<em>Quicksand\/Stargazing<\/em><em>,<\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em>a must-read,&nbsp;questions what it means to be a human\/animal.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remi Recchia is a trans poet and essayist from Kalamazoo, Michigan. He is a Ph.D. candidate in English-Creative Writing at Oklahoma State University. He currently serves as an associate editor for the&nbsp;<em>Cimarron Review<\/em>&nbsp;and Reviews Editor for&nbsp;<em>Gasher<\/em><em>&nbsp;Journal<\/em>. A four-time Pushcart Prize nominee, Remi\u2019s work has appeared or will soon appear in&nbsp;<em>Best New Poets 2021<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Columbia Online Journal,&nbsp;<\/em><em>Harpur<\/em><em>&nbsp;Palate,&nbsp;<\/em>and<em>&nbsp;Juked<\/em>, among others. He holds an MFA in poetry from Bowling Green State University. Remi is the author of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/store.cooperdillon.com\/product\/quicksand-stargazing-by-remi-recchia\"><em>Quicksand\/Stargazing<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(Cooper Dillon Books, 2021). His chapbook,&nbsp;<em>Sober<\/em>, is forthcoming with&nbsp;<em>Red Bird Chapbooks<\/em>. She has a mastery of image that pervades in every line. In \u201cBones I Get From My Mother,\u201d Recchia describes: \u201cI&nbsp;know&nbsp;my&nbsp;tongue\/is&nbsp;a&nbsp;rounded&nbsp;wasp&#8217;s&nbsp;nest\/with&nbsp;an&nbsp;egg&#8217;s&nbsp;gold&nbsp;finish.\/Everything&nbsp;inside&nbsp;is&nbsp;humming.\u201d Delicate imagery overlaps with powerful messages, while messages can also be found in every well-crafted line.&nbsp;In another poem, \u201cOn Being Fat-Shamed While Out with Your Conventionally Attractive Boyfriend,\u201d Recchia&nbsp;delivers a powerful voice by using a simple situation of ordering food at a restaurant. She writes: \u201cThis is just one way of practicing&nbsp;grace,\/my mother says\u2014people mostly\/mean well and are doing their best\/and don\u2019t realize how they sound.\/I try to play that game too.\u201d Recchia work resounds with a vast array of readers. Check out her poetry collection,&nbsp;<em>Hiding in a Thimble<\/em>, and her chapbook,&nbsp;<em>Imitating Light<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Roseanna Alice Boswell is a queer poet and educator from Upstate New York. She earned her MFA in poetry from Bowling Green State University and is currently working toward her Ph.D.&nbsp;in English-Creative Writing at Oklahoma State University.&nbsp;Her debut poetry collection,&nbsp;<em>Hiding<\/em><em>&nbsp;in a Thimble,&nbsp;<\/em>was released with&nbsp;<em>Haverthorn<\/em><em>&nbsp;Press<\/em>&nbsp;in 2021 and she was the winner of Iron Horse Literary Review\u2019s 2021 Chapbook Competition for her manuscript&nbsp;<em>Imitating Light.<\/em>&nbsp;Roseanna\u2019s research interests include feminist theory, fat studies, and how these two fields speak to femininity and domesticity.
