She lives with her family in Idaho. Her poem, \u201cCartography of Human Bridges,\u201d appears in MAR 35.1.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quick! Summarize your poem in 10 words or fewer. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Guy gave me the word \u201ccaisson.\u201d I wrote a poem.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What can you share about this piece prior to its MAR publication?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I do a project called Poetry for Strangers where each week I asked a stranger for a word and use it in a poem. I asked a Brown University poet and he gave me the word \u201ccaisson.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCasein?\u201d I echoed. \u201cAs in cheese.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, no, no,\u201d said the poet. He thought. \u201cBridges!\u201d he finally said. Then raced out of the room.<\/p>\n<p>Poets!<\/p>\n<p>So I looked up the word and spent a night on it. It was a hard poem to write, but it found its form when I thought about the attempt for airtightness in the love of another person, and how impossible it is.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You\u2019re at a family reunion and some long-lost relative asks about your writing. What do you say?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hi, relative. If you give me a word I\u2019ll write you a poem.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you consider your biggest writing-related success? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Finishing a kick-ass novel in the two years after my daughter was born. My god, how hard I worked to scrap together pieces of time!<\/p>\n<p><strong>What was your reaction upon receiving your MAR acceptance?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thrilled!!
