For the second consecutive year, the College of Arts and Sciences has been involved in the opening of new spaces at Bowling Green State University. Last year it was the Michael & Sara Kuhlin Center, home of the School of Media and Communication; this year, we are proud to show off the renovated Moseley Hall.
The 29,000 square-foot interdisciplinary science complex —intended for undergraduate science education in biology, chemistry, geology and medical laboratory science—includes state-of-the art flexible laboratory and classroom spaces that provide a catalyst for new teaching methods using evidence-based practices to enhance the science education of students across campus. The impact will be significant with hundreds, if not thousands, of students in and out of the building on a daily basis.
I’m also pleased to announce a new professorship in software engineering has been established at BGSU. Dr. Joseph Chao, chair of the Department of Computer Science, has been named the Shantanu and Reni Narayen Endowed Professor for a three-year term.
There are many exciting initiatives and engaging events planned in the new academic year. We would love for you to visit to see the new spaces, participate in any of our events or to reconnect with your alma mater.
Raymond Craig, Ph.D.

Uncovering links between earthquakes and surface water
Dr. Yuning Fu, an assistant professor of geophysics in the School of Earth, Environment and Society, is researching the connection between surface water and earthquake activity. He and colleagues from the University of California at Berkeley published an article in Science this summer; and his research continues with a NASA grant to expand the geographic scope of the findings.
